COMMERCIAL REFRIGERATION REPAIR & SERVICE

Whether it is a walk-in refrigerator or reach-in freezer, the refrigeration system is often complex and quite fragile. We highly recommend our Commercial Refrigeration Repair / Service Contract to keep your equipment functioning properly.

Common Commercial Refrigeration Issues

Picking and understanding the uses of each type of fan can be difficult, here is a quick summary of the most common fans we see and recommend:

  • Frost Buildup Inside Freezer  - often a result from leaving the door partially cracked or not latching the door properly. You may also have a bad seal on your door, which may require replacement.

  • Refrigerator Not Cooling - the most common cause of your refrigerator not cooling is from dirty coil (dirt and grim buildup along the the coil, creating a layer of insulation between the air and refrigerant. This makes it difficult for the refrigerant to absorb the heat, creating a rise in temperature. Furthermore, the refrigerant stays cold since it is not absorbing the heat and freezes the condensation - which becomes a larger issue if not taken care of promptly).

  • Refrigerator Freezing Food - it is most likely a problem with the temperature control thermostat. This thermostat controls the voltage to the compressor and evaporator fan motor; therefore, if it isn’t working correctly, it might cause the refrigerator system to run longer than necessary, causing the unit to be too cold.

  • Refrigerator Making Strange Noises - if your commercial refrigerator is making strange or obnoxiously loud noises it is most likely an indication that the compressor motor is failing.

United Team Mechanical's Commercial Refrigeration Service Program

Much like your car (or anything mechanical), your fans need maintenance to keep them up and running properly. Refrigerator or freezers often carry large amounts of perishable inventory, which translates to cash for you. If not properly maintained you could be risking your investment in inventory.

Commercial Refrigeration Repair / Maintenance Checklist

Repairing a commercial refrigerator can require technical skill and certifications in order to properly maintain the equipment.

  • Shut off all electrical power - before operating on the commercial refrigerator, disconnect all power.

  • Overall unit condition - ensure the door gasket and insulation surrounding the refrigerator or freezer are in proper working condition (gasket actually seals, no large imperfections in the freezer/ refrigerator insulation lining, cleaning the equipment).

  • Belts - check condition, tension and pulley alignment - replace with any signs of wear and tear.

  • Inspect fans - lubricate motor and fan bearings, check fan condition (chips, cracks, dirt) and check drive alignment. Ensure the fan is centered within the appropriate housing.

  • Compressor motor - checking the compressor motor can require some special tools and technical knowledge. Keeping the compressor motor in healthy working condition is absolutely crucial.

  • Coil - dirt and grim buildup along the fins of the coil, creating a layer of insulation between the air and refrigerant. This makes it difficult for the refrigerant to absorb the heat, creating a rise in temperature. Furthermore, the refrigerant stays cold since it is not absorbing the heat and freezes condensate on the fins - which becomes a larger issue if not taken care of promptly.

This list is not a comprehensive maintenance schedule, but simply a few tips to help you get started in the right direction. For a full maintenance schedule and service, sign up for United Team Mechanical's Commercial Refrigeration Repair/Service Program.
